Outreach

The Ladies Philoptochos Society is the philanthropic arm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and of St. Andrew. Philoptochos’ members offer philanthropy through a multitude of programs, events and fundraisers that make a difference in the lives of people in our community. Through these activities, they fulfill their mission to help those less fortunate and those in need.  Philoptochos organizes a community food drive every week for specific local food banks that help those needy families in our community. They organize several flea markets throughout the year, which fund several student scholarships for our youth. Our Ladies of Philoptochos sponsor and organize the coffee socials on Sundays. They fundraise for orphanages and local non-profits through their holiday bake sales.

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) chapter 476 at Saint Andrew stands by the mission of promoting hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, family and individual excellence. Our local chapter is primarily involved in providing scholarships to Greek-American students pursuing a college education. Through various fundraising efforts, AHEPA’s commitment to education has been well documented throughout its history. More than $4 million is endowed at the local, district and national levels toward the use of scholarships and more than a half-million dollars is awarded annually.  

It is a moving occasion when one is able to share and help these families for one meal on a day you would otherwise use to spend at home with your own family. Our monthly outreach with the Ronald McDonald House consists of different individuals and families coming together to cook a meal for those less fortunate at this charity location and serving and sharing food with these families in need. Those who have done it come out with a richer appreciation of life, love for your own children and sincere sympathy as you hear these parents tell you stories about their own extremely sick kids suffering with limited resources. A meal that may mean more time with their child at the hospital, or feeding another child who is also accompanying the sick sibling. 

This ministry assembles a group of psychotherapists, family therapists and community professors with years of experience to come together and offer counseling and therapy to any individual or family who is coping with emotional issues.
